COLOMBO (News 1st);Former Minister P. Dayaratne has passed away at the age of 89.
He began his political career in 1977 when he was elected to Parliament representing the Ampara District under the United National Party.
He was first appointed as Deputy Minister of Power and Energy in the administration of President J.R. Jayewardene.
Over the course of his distinguished career, he went on to serve in several key cabinet positions, including Minister of Land and Mahaweli Development and Minister of Health and Nutrition.
An electrical engineer by profession, Dayaratna was also actively involved in the Galoya Development Project.
His parliamentary career spanned an impressive 37 years, during which he made significant contributions to national development and public service.
