COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has initiated steps to transport fuel to its distribution centers through a formal tender process.

Dr. Mayura Neththikumara, The Managing Director of the CPC, stated that under the pilot project, fuel transportation to the Kurunegala distribution center will be carried out using bowser trucks selected via this tender process.

The deadline for submitting tenders is set for the 28th of this month.

Currently, CPC operates 11 distribution centers across the country, with fuel transported using bowser trucks that have a capacity of 33,000 liters.

Dr. Neththikumara emphasized that the tender-based system is expected to reduce transportation costs significantly.

However, the decision to select fuel transporters through a tender process has sparked opposition from existing bowser truck owners.

Dr. Neththikumara confirmed that these stakeholders have submitted a proposal regarding the matter, and that the CPC is currently reviewing the viable suggestions presented.
