COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Education has instructed all provincial and zonal education directors to urgently submit reports on surplus teachers in schools across the country.

According to Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, preliminary findings indicate that several rural schools with low student populations are currently overstaffed, while others continue to face critical teacher shortages.

“This imbalance is having a serious impact on the overall efficiency of our education system,” the Deputy Minister stated.

The Ministry plans to use the data to implement a nationwide teacher redistribution strategy in line with upcoming education reforms set to launch next year.
