Snorkel Gear Found, But Student Still Missing Near Colombo Port

COLOMBO (News 1st); A search operation is ongoing to locate a 24-year-old university student who went missing while snorkeling near the artificial beach in the Colombo Harbour Police Division yesterday (26) morning.

The student, a resident of Asgiriya in the Gampaha District, was part of a group of students from the University of Colombo and the University of Moratuwa who were snorkeling and observing the seabed when the incident occurred.

Following a report to the Colombo Harbour Police, a coordinated search operation was launched involving police officers, Navy divers, and life-saving personnel. During the operation, the missing student’s snorkel gear was recovered by life guards, raising concerns about his safety.

The search effort is being led by the Colombo Harbour Police with support from the Navy’s Rangala diving unit and other maritime rescue teams. Investigations into the incident are also underway.
