Trinco Doctor Charged $300 For Fake Health Checks

COLOMBO (News 1st); A doctor attached to the Kinniya Hospital has been arrested for allegedly issuing fraudulent medical reports to passengers arriving at the Trincomalee port, without conducting proper medical examinations.

The arrest was made following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), based on a formal complaint. 

According to police sources, the doctor was responsible for screening passengers disembarking from ships and issuing medical clearance reports, for which he was paid USD 300 per report.

However, investigations revealed that the doctor had been issuing these reports without performing any actual medical checks.

Authorities confirmed that he had received payments for these falsified documents.

The suspect is currently in custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
