Colombo (News 1st); Starting from the 7th of June, it will be mandatory for those seeking employment abroad, excluding domestic service to have their employment agreements certified by the Sri Lankan embassy in the respective country.
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLBFE) announced that this measure follows investigations into challenges faced by Sri Lankan workers in foreign countries.
In cases where Sri Lanka does not have an embassy or diplomatic mission in the country, the employment agreement must be approved by the SLBFE's head office, airport unit, or one of its district offices.
