COLOMBO (News 1st) - The prices of food of parliamentary staff will be revised starting from the 1st of June, following a decision made by the House Committee of Parliament, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

According to the Department of Communications of the Parliament, the revision applies to both executive and non-executive staff members.

Executive-grade officers will be charged Rs. 4,000 per month for meals, while non-executive staff will be charged Rs. 2,500.

The current prices of food purchased at the Parliament Public Cafeteria by Members of Parliament, drivers, police officers, Presidential and Prime Ministerial security personnel, and journalists will remain unchanged.

This revision is part of a routine adjustment conducted every three years, based on staff requests and Treasury recommendations to cover the cost of meals provided to Parliament staff.

The House Committee includes members from both Government and Opposition parties.
