Two Women in Custody Over Gold-Plated T56 Rifle

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two women were arrested in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle at a residential complex in Wellawatte.

The suspects include a 68-year-old woman from Colombo and a 40-year-old resident of Battaramulla. 

Authorities say the older woman was seen removing a travel bag from the trunk of her car, which was later found to contain the firearm. 

Security personnel at the complex, noticing the suspicious activity, questioned her and immediately alerted the police.

Police officers arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon and took the weapon into custody. The two women are expected to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.
