COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has announced plans to expand internal affairs units across more public institutions in a bid to strengthen anti-corruption efforts nationwide.
According to the Commission, new units will be established in Divisional Secretariats, police stations, and local government bodies.
This expansion builds on the existing network of approximately 100 internal affairs units already operational in ministries and state institutions.
These units were initially introduced under a circular issued by the Presidential Secretariat as part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2025–2029.
Their primary objective is to minimize corruption within public institutions and promote integrity and transparency.
The internal affairs units will serve as dedicated spaces for the public to submit inquiries and complaints regarding public service delivery.
They will also be responsible for identifying corruption risks, conducting risk assessments, enhancing internal safeguards, and submitting comprehensive reports to both the Presidential Secretariat and CIABOC.
