COLOMBO (News 1st); Reggae fans in Sri Lanka are in for a historic musical experience as legendary Ivorian reggae artist Alpha Blondy (real name Seydou Koné) is set to perform live in Colombo on July 19, 2025, at the Air Force Grounds.
The event, titled “Alpha Blondy Live in Sri Lanka,” is organized by Big Blast Events in collaboration with YES FM and EarGear Production.
The official press conference, held in Colombo yesterday, featured key figures from Sri Lanka’s music and media industries, including Buddhi Wickramanayake, COO of MBC Networks, who represented YES 101 as the official media partner.
“Well its exciting day for Raggae fans out there in Sri Lanka. We all know the legends Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Sphere, Lucky Doobie and there are so many other artists raggae artists, legendary raggae artists and now we have the chance to witness the legendary Alpha Blondy live in Sri Lanka with Yes FM, production by EarGear, Big Blast event on the 19th of July, at the Airforce Grounds. Come join us, lets have a big blast on that day. Also stay tuned to Yes 101 for more information and to win passes. Jah Rastafari!” he said.
Vinod Melpitiya, Director of EarGear Production, emphasized the significance of the event for Sri Lanka’s reggae community:
“This is just the beginning. We’re thrilled to bring Alpha Blondy and his band The Solar System to Colombo. There’s a huge reggae following here, and this concert will set the tone for many more to come.”
The event also saw enthusiastic support from local artists. Rohitha Jayalath of Jaya Sri, who has previously opened for Alpha Blondy in Europe, called the concert a “blessing” for Sri Lanka’s music scene and a potential tourism booster. Celebrated vocalist Umara Sinhawansa echoed the sentiment, calling the event a dream come true and a sign of bigger things ahead for the country’s live music industry.
Alpha Blondy, known for hits like “Cocody Rock” and “Jerusalem,” is expected to deliver a night of powerful music, unity, and cultural celebration.
