COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal has scheduled a hearing for June 26th to review the petition requesting the disqualification of Member of Parliament Ramanathan Archchuna.

The petition was presented today before an Appeal Court bench comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea and Mahen Gopallawa.

The petition was filed by Oshala Herath, leader of the Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna.

The petitioner claims that MP Ramanathan Archchuna submitted his nomination for the recent general election while serving as a government medical officer.

The petitioner argues that submitting nominations without resigning from government service is illegal and violates the provisions of the Election Act.

According to the Constitution, the petitioner asserts that the MP is not qualified to hold a parliamentary seat and requests an order to disqualify him from his position.

The petition names MP Dr. Ramanathan Archchuna and the Secretary General of Parliament among the respondents.
