COLOMBO (News 1st); In a tragic incident yesterday in the Ramboda area of Kotmale, a van carrying 17 passengers met with an accident.
Among the injured, three women were transferred from Gampola Hospital to Kandy General Hospital for further treatment.
The police reported that the passengers were returning from a leisure trip to Nuwara Eliya, originating from the Rajanganaya area. This accident occurred just a few kilometers away from the site of the recent bus tragedy that claimed 23 lives.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a mechanical failure might have caused the van to crash.
Meanwhile, the police continue their operations to inspect long-distance service buses, following directives from Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya.
