COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release of actress Semini Iddamalgoda on bail.
She was produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Ilangasinghe following her arrest by Welikada Police earlier today.
The arrest was made despite seven outstanding warrants related to multiple cases of evading payments.
Police informed the court that the warrants were issued in connection with her operation of a private security company, and failure to pay dues including contributions to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
According to police, four warrants were issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, two by the Matara Magistrate’s Court, and one by the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court.
Lawyers representing the suspect said that as an actress, she had no reason to evade court proceedings. They added that payments related to several of the cases had already been made by the service provider, and that the Labor Department had withdrawn some of the complaints.
After considering the facts, the Magistrate granted bail with a surety of Rs. 100,000 for each case.
The court also ordered the suspect to submit payment reports related to the four complaints filed before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by May 19.
