COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sacred Sarvanna relics,and the relics of the Maha Rahat Theros are scheduled to arrive at the Sirasa Namami – Sirasa Vesak Zone this afternoon.
The relics, which were ceremonially brought from the Nelligala International Buddhist Center on May 9, are currently enshrined at the historic Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.
A grand procession carrying the relics is set to begin at 8 a.m., travelling through Angoda Junction, Koswatta, Battaramulla, Diyatha Uyana, Rajagiriya, D.S. Senanayake Junction, Nelumpokuna Roundabout, and Colombo Municipal Council, before reaching the MTV / MBC Head Office premises in Braybrooke Place, Colombo 2.
All necessary arrangements have been made to bring the revered relics, gifted to Sri Lanka by King Chulankara in 1886 and presently enshrined at the Galle Paramananda Rajamaha Viharaya to the Sirasa Vesak zone for public veneration.
The Sirasa Namami – Sirasa Vesak Zone will officially open for devotees this evening.
This year's Sirasa Vesak Zone will feature a sacred relics pilgrimage, a grand perahera, cultural performances, a pandol, Vesak lanterns, devotional songs, and more.
Sirasa Namami Sirasa Vesak Perahera, will take to the streets at 7 p.m.
It will commence from the MTV/MBC Head Office along Dawson Street and Park Street, passing the Lipton Roundabout near Town Hall, and return to the Vesak zone via Union Place.
