COLOMBO (News 1st); Former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera has been remanded until May 19 following his appearance before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court earlier today.

The decision was issued by Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva, in connection with a high-profile case involving the alleged illegal sale of state-owned land.

Ranaweera is accused of being involved in the unauthorized sale of a government-allocated plot in Kiribathgoda to a private buyer.

The land had reportedly been designated for a public construction project.

The case is being pursued under the Public Property Act, which carries serious penalties for the misuse of state assets.

The court had previously issued open warrants for the arrest of Ranaweera and several other suspects on May 5, after they failed to appear in connection with the investigation.

In a related development, former Minister Mervyn Silva has also been remanded in connection with the same case.
