65,000 Police Officers Deployed For Election Security

COLOMBO (News 1st): A comprehensive nationwide security operation was launched this morning (5) to ensure the peaceful conduct of Sri Lanka’s upcoming Local Government elections.

According to Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa, a total of 3,216 mobile patrol units have been deployed across the island to maintain law and order during the election period.

The operation involves the deployment of 65,000 police officers, marking one of the largest election-related security mobilizations in recent years.

SSP Thalduwa also noted that military personnel will be called in to assist if necessary, depending on the evolving security situation.
