COLOMBO (News 1st); The Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University, Professor Sunil Shantha, says that a three-member committee has been appointed to investigate the sudden death of a student.

He said that the committee has been instructed to submit its report without delay.

While second-year students of the Faculty of Technology are currently attending classes online, it has been reported that the deceased student arrived at the university on April 26 and participated in an Avurudu festival on April 27.

Although the student was not officially assigned hostel accommodation, it is reported that he had been staying with a group of third-year students.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation following a complaint by a university student alleging that the death may be linked to ragging.

Authorities further noted that if ragging is confirmed in connection with the incident, legal action will be taken under relevant criminal laws.
