Two Arrested for Offering Bribe to Police Sergeant

COLOMBO(News 1st) - Two individuals who are residents of Dambadeniya and Alawwa, who offered a bribe of Rs. 20,000 to a police sergeant have been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Police said that the bribe was given in exchange for two suspects who were wanted in connection with a cattle theft incident being named as witnesses instead of suspects in the crime.

The attempt to bribe was made by an undercover police officer from the Unresolved Crime Investigation Division of the Negombo Police Station.

The suspects are to be produced before the Nikaweratiya Magistrate’s Court.
