Taxation, Revenue Goals Were Discussed In Washington With IMF - Vijitha

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka's recent discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have primarily focused on taxation issues, including Value Added Tax (VAT), and the country's revenue goals.

Cabinet Spokesperson & Minister Vijitha Herath speaking to reporters in Colombo said that while these discussions aimed to align Sri Lanka's fiscal policies with IMF recommendations, no final decisions have been made yet.

The discussions took place in Washington, attended by the Central Bank Governor, the Secretary of Treasury, and the President's Economic Advisor. 

As of now, the tax component of the IMF agreement remains under deliberation. Further details are expected to be shared soon through a media briefing by the attending officials.

Minister Vijitha Herath, the Cabinet Spokesperson, stated that the IMF delegation recently visited Sri Lanka to engage with the new government and understand its stance and future collaboration with the IMF.

Minister Herath clarified that there were no in-depth discussions regarding the agreement during the delegation's visit to Sri Lanka.
