Operation Yukthiya Nets Over 29,000 Suspects in 22 Days

COLOMBO (News 1st); In just 22 days since the launch of Operation Yukthiya on December 17, 2023, Sri Lankan authorities have apprehended a total of 29,475 suspects, with 955 individuals detained over the past 24 hours alone.

The Ministry of Public Security reported that 1473 suspects are held under detention orders, while investigations into the illegal assets of 220 individuals are underway.

Notably, 2326 of the total arrests stemmed from the operation's focus on tackling drug trafficking, targeting both registered suspects of the Police Narcotics Bureau and Special Bureau.

Police have managed to seize a significant amount of illicit drugs, with the total market value surpassing 4,439 million rupees.

Furthermore, authorities have confiscated properties belonging to drug traffickers, valued at over 619 million rupees. 

These confiscated assets include vehicles worth 389 million rupees and gold valued at 140 million rupees.
