COLOMBO (News1st); The Sri Lankan team that participated in the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup arrived in the island on Wednesday (19) morning.
The Sri Lankan team competed in Group D in the preliminary round of the Men's T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka ranked 3rd in Group D, after only winning one match in the preliminary round, missing out on the Super 8 qualification.
Captain Wanindu Hasaranga expressed regret for their performance, stating, "We left Sri Lanka with high hopes and dreams, and we didn't plan for the series to end this way. Our mistakes during the matches resulted in our failure as a team."
However, Hasaranga emphasized his belief in the team's potential. "I don't believe a single tournament loss necessitates a team overhaul," he said. "We had a chance to win if we had performed better. We would never intentionally lose a tournament."
Hasaranga acknowledged the unwavering support of Sri Lankan cricket fans: "We know Cricket fans will support us through thick and thin." He concluded by reiterating the team's commitment to success: "As sportsmen, our ultimate goal is to win tournaments and bring joy to our fans."
