Special investigation into prison officer trade union action

A special investigation has been launched against the prison officers who staged a trade union action where they refrained from producing suspects to court.

The investigation was initated according to a court order.

Prisons Commissioner and Spokesperson Gamini B. Dissanayake said that reports on the identities of the guards who joined the union action have been submitted to court.

He said these reports were submitted on orders received by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage.

The investigation will be carried out by a senior officer.

The two-day trade union action last week caused delays in producing suspects before the court.
