Colombo(News 1st); The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court has granted bail to three officers, including the former Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic, Suriya Priyangani Sirimanne, who were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The suspects were presented before the official chambers of Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga.
According to the Bribery Commission, the arrests were made in connection with the illegal registration of a vehicle, part of an ongoing investigation into vehicles registered at the Department of Motor Traffic without customs clearance.
The other two suspects have been identified as Sanjeewa Kumara, a Development Assistant at the Department, and Indika Lakshman Herath, a Supervisory Officer attached to the Department’s Investigation Division in Narahenpita.
During the proceedings, Bribery Commission officials submitted that the suspects should be remanded as investigations were still underway. However, attorneys representing the suspects filed a bail application, seeking their release.
After considering the submissions, the Chief Magistrate granted bail, ordering that each suspect be released on two sureties amounting to Rs. 2 million.
