Heavy Showers And Thunder Showers Expected Across The Island

The Met Department saays Due to the South West Monsoon condition, the prevailing showery and windy conditions are expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces.

Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Nuwara-Eliya district. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Galle and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in Northern and North-central provinces and few showers may occur in Eastern province.

Strong winds of about (50-60) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, Western, Southern and North-western provincesand in Trincomalee district. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times elsewhere of the island.

The Department of Meteorology warns the fishing and marine community to avoid sailing in to sea in those areas.

Kuda Ganga, a tributary of Kalu Ganga, continues to be at minor flood level from Millakanda area.

The Irrigation Department said that Atthanagalu Oya is also at minor flood level from Dunamale.

Kehelgamuwa Oya, a tributary of the Kelani Ganga, poses a flood risk from Norwood area.

In addition, Nilwala River is at flood risk level from Panadugama and Talgahagoda areas as well as Deduru Oya from Moragaswewa area.

Meanwhile, the landslide warning notice issued to 7 districts is still in force.

Those districts are Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura.
