Sri Lanka's Women's Cricket Team Return After Securing Spot in ICC T20 World Cup

COLOMBO (News 1st); The victorious Sri Lanka National Women's Cricket Team returned home after securing their place at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

The tournament to select contenders for the upcoming T20 Women's Cricket World Cup was hosted in Abu Dhabi, featuring 10 competitive teams.

After fierce competition, Sri Lanka and Scotland emerged victorious, securing their spots in the prestigious tournament.


In Final of the qualifiers, Scotland Women's Cricket Captain Sarah Bryce elected to bowl first after winning the toss in Abu Dhabi.

Sri Lanka, led by Captain Chamari Athapattu's stellar performance, set a formidable score of 169 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Athapattu herself scoring an impressive 102 runs off just 63 balls.

In response, the Scottish women struggled to maintain momentum, managing to accumulate only 101 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Notably, Udeshika Prabodhani's stellar bowling performance contributed significantly to Sri Lanka's victory, as she claimed 3 crucial wickets.

With this triumph, Sri Lanka has earned the distinction of competing in Group A alongside formidable opponents like Australia, India, New Zealand, and Pakistan in the upcoming T20 Women's World Cup.

Scheduled to commence on October 3rd, the tournament will be hosted by Bangladesh this year.
