COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, PC has stressed that his country desires to maintain its sovereignty while engaging with all nations.

He was speaking 'North to South, East to West: Rebuilding Trust' panel discussion organized by the World Economic Forum.

He expressed concern over potential coercion faced by developing nations in their decision-making processes, stressing the importance of voluntary choices. He underscored the need for mutual respect and collaboration between the global South and North, citing a lack of confidence and delivery on promises from the latter.

He urged global powers to uphold diplomatic channels and avoid decoupling, cautioning against potential adverse effects on global markets.

Furthermore, Minister Sabry advocated for addressing key global conflicts, such as the Israeli-Palestinian and Ukrainian-Russian issues, through dialogue and implementing resolutions like the 1967 UN resolution on the two-state solution.

Minister Sabry called for a world that prioritizes peace, collaboration, and equitable solutions, emphasizing the perspective of the global South in international affairs.
