Justice Wimalasena Appointed As First President of Nauru's Court of Appeal

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Judiciary of Nauru announced the appointment of Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena as the first President of the Court of Appeal, and he was officially sworn into office in a ceremony presided over by Acting President and Minister for Justice Lionel Aingimea.

This appointment marks a significant milestone in Nauru’s legal history since the Court of Appeal’s establishment in 2018.

Justice Wimalasena has served as a Justice of Appeal since August 2022 and as Acting President since 27 June 2023 in Nauru.

His legal journey began in 1999 as a prosecutor in the Attorney General’s Department in Sri Lanka, served as a Magistrate and District Court Judge, and later as a Magistrate and Judge of the High Court in Fiji.

Nauru Judiciary says they look forward to Justice Wimalasena’s continued leadership and contributions to the legal community as the President of the Court of Appeal, further strengthening the rule of law and administration of justice in Nauru.
