Steps taken to resolve staff salary issues -UGC

COLOMBO (News1st); The University Grants Commission said necessary measures have been taken to resolve the salary issue of university non-academic staff.

UGC Chairman Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge said the Minister of Education has also submitted a Cabinet paper to resolve the issue.

The issue has arisen due to salaries of non-academic staff being slashed by 15 percent in 2016.

Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions Dhammika S. Priyantha said trade union action was launched due to the lack of response to their demands made thus far.

Accordingly, he said a decision was reached to launch strike action once a week.
