Sri Lanka to receive big onions from China within five days

COLOMBO (News1st); The Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security said the stocks of big onions ordered from China will arrive in Sri Lanka within the next five days.

Minister Nalin Fernando said the current price of big onions in the market will reduce following the arrival of the stocks from China.

The Minister said measures were taken to encourage the import of pink onions, which are a substitute for big onions.

He said the tax of Rs.70 per 1kg of pink onions was reduced to Rs.10.

The price of big onions in the market increased after India banned the export of big onions.

The price of a kilogram of big onions is over Rs.500.
