Hunger strike launched by Sri Lankan fisherfolk detained in the Seychelles, continues

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The hunger strike launched by the Sri Lankan fisherfolk who were rescued from the captivity of an armed group in the Seychelles and detained in a port in the country, continues on the 9th day.

On the 1st of March, they launched a hunger strike, demanding their immediate repatriation.

The fast is being carried out by 6 fisherfolk who were aboard the Lorenzo Putha 4multi-day fishing trawler.

The Lorenzo Putha 4 trawler had departed the port of Dikovita on the 12th of January, on its maiden voyage.

The 06 fisherfolk are residents of Marawila in Chilaw and three of them are of the same family.

They were captured by an armed group while engaging in fishing activities.

They were then rescued in an operation launched by the Seychelles security forces.

They are currently detained at a port in the Seychelles.
