Improved Hydropower Drives CEB to Propose 50% Tariff Rollback

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, offering relief to consumers burdened by the 18% increase implemented last October.

CEB Spokesperson Noel Padmasiri confirmed that the Board will submit proposals to the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) before January 15th, seeking a 50% reduction in the recent tariff hike.

This comes on the heels of improved hydropower generation, fueled by the recent rains that have boosted reservoir levels. 

Padmasiri highlighted that reservoir water capacity has reached 1250 gigawatt hours, sufficient to meet the country's electricity needs for the next six months.
