Operations at East terminal to commence on June 1st, 2024

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation said operations at the East terminal of the Colombo Port will commence on the 1st of June, 2024.
Ministry Secretary K.D.S. Ruwanchandra said container operations will be carried out using six new cranes.
He added that 80 percent of the construction of the East terminal has been completed.
USD 825 million is being spent on construction.
Ruwanchandra said the East terminal has a container operation capacity of 2 million annually.
