Teachers yet to be paid for paper marking

COLOMBO (News 1st); Trade unions allege that teachers are yet to receive allowance for marking O/Level and Grade 5 Scholarship examination answer scripts.

Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said as a result teachers are facing a severe crisis.

Jayasinghe added that some allowances given to teachers for the 2023 A/Level examination have also been slashed.

When inquired by News 1st spokesperson of the Department of Examinations Deputy Commissioner of Examinations Lasika Samarakoon said all payments related to the exams will be made to teachers by the 31st of December.

He said a sufficient number of teachers have applied for the 2023 A/Level exam and they will be informed regarding payments when handing over their appointment letter.
