Nationwide outage: PUCSL awaits inquiry report

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says that it is yet to be provided with a comprehensive report with regard to the recent nation-wide power outage.

Professor Manjula Fernando, the Chairman of the PUCSL told News 1st that he expected the relevant authorities to make the report available on or before the 20th of December.

He said that upon receiving the report, the top officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board would be summoned to the Public Utilities Commission for an inquiry.

In addition, an external committee has also been appointed to investigate the recent nation-wide power outage.

State Minister Indika Anurudhdha also said that the State Intelligence Service is also conducting its own investigation into the recent nation-wide power outage.

On Saturday, 9th December, the entire country lost electricity shortly after 5 PM, crippling a plethora of services.

The CEB said that it managed to restore the supply of electricity within 5 1/2 hours.

Later, it came to light that a lightning strike on the Kothmale to Biyagama Transmission Line caused the outage.
