National Security is my priority - Acting Police Chief

COLOMBO (News 1st); Acting Police Chief Deshabandu Tennakoon says that his priority will be national security.

Speaking to reporters after being appointed as the Acting IGP, he said that a program will be implemented in the future to crack down on drugs, and organized crime.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon as the Acting Inspector General of Police.

Sri Lanka Police in a statement said that the appointment was made as per the powers vested in the President by the constitution. 

Deshabandu Tennakoon is a product of Nalanda College, Colombo and joined Sri Lanka Police on the 23rd of February 1998 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He was promoted to Acting Senior DIG in November 2019, and in December the same year, he was appointed as the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province.

Deshabandu Tennakoon had held multiple positions in Sri Lanka Police and was deployed to many areas across Sri Lanka in order to maintain law and order.
