COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has lost the right to host the 2023 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, said the country's Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera on Tuesday (21) in parliament.
"This affects us economically as well," said the Minister, while noting that this move also takes away the opportunity for youth cricketers to shine.
Indian media reported that the ICC has moved the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2024 out of Sri Lanka To South Africa.
The Times Now reported that the decision was made after the apex body suspended Sri Lanka Cricket following the government's involvement in the board's activities.
"The ICC decided against lifting the ban on Sri Lanka cricket board and shifted the tournament to South Africa. However, the body informed that the cricket in the country will continue undisrupted," reported the Times Now.
