Luxury Motorcycles Smuggled into Sri Lanka Found in Hambantota Bird Park Warehouse

COLOMBO (News 1st);Twenty illegally imported motorcycles, including eight luxury Harley-Davidson bikes and four tricycles, have been discovered inside a warehouse at the Hambantota Bird Park.

Police stated that officers from the Central Anti-Corruption Task Force conducted the raid today based on a tip-off received by the Acting Inspector General of Police. 

During the raid, the motorcycles were seized.

Among the seized vehicles, eight were identified as Harley-Davidsons, including four tricycles of the same brand. 

Police added that the rest were motorcycles manufactured in various foreign countries.

It was further revealed that a single Harley-Davidson motorcycle can fetch over Rs. 15 million in the local market. 

The total value of all seized motorcycles exceeds Rs. 200 million.

The manager of the bird park and the warehouse supervisor have been arrested in connection with the incident. 

The suspects, aged 40 and 53, are residents of Matara and Middeniya.

Additionally, during the investigation, police also discovered a stock of cannabis plants cultivated within the premises of the bird park.

Police have launched a broad investigation into how the motorcycles were illegally brought into the country. 

Further investigations are also underway regarding a suspect identified as Ajith Gallage, who is believed to be the owner of the bird park.
