Risky to reopen right lanes of Southern Expressway section - RDA

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Road Development Authority says that opening the lane towards Colombo along the section between Pinnaduwa and Imaduwa of the Southern Expressway that was closed, is still a risk.

The section was closed on Wednesday after a mound of earth collapsed onto the road due to heavy showers in the area.

RDA Chairman Chaminda Athuluwage says that it was decided to open the section based on the recommendations of the National Building Research Organization.

However, due to a risk of further landslides along the Expressway, steps have been taken to close the right lanes.

He says that the lanes will be reopened after the National Building Research Organization provides a permanent solution to the issue.

The left lanes of the section were reopened Friday (13) evening for vehicles to travel both ways.
