COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology said the prevailing showery condition in the south-western part of the island is expected to continue further.

The Department predicts showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. 

The Met. Department predicts fairly heavy showers above 75mm at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.

The Department predicts showers or thundershowers at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.

Director of Hydrology & Disaster Management at the Dept. of Irrigation Eng. S.P.C Sugeeshwara said the flood situation in the Attanagalu Oya, Gin, Kalu and Nilwala rivers is gradually decreasing.

30,353 people belonging to 7,629 families in 12 districts have been affected by the adverse weather.

Most of them are in the Western Province, with 25,189 people affected in the Gampaha and Kalutara districts.

Landslide warnings issued in eight districts are still in effect.

It includes several divisional secretariats in the Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura districts.
