Colombo (News 1st): Due to the drought, more than 66,234 acres of paddy and other crops have been damaged this year during the Yala season.
The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board stated that 67,408 farmers have been affected.
The highest amount of crop damage is reported from the Kurunegala district.
That amount exceeds 16,992 acres.
More than 14,810 acres of Udawalawa have been destroyed due to drought.
In the meantime, the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board. W.M. M. B. Weerasekera said the assessment of the crop damage caused to the farmers due to drought, rain, and caterpillars has reached the final stage.
The chairman has informed the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, that the assessment of the crop damage caused by the drought has been completed and the assessment of the crop damage caused by the rain is currently being carried out.
The chairman of the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board stated, that immediately, after the completion of the activities, the report of the complete crop damage assessment will be handed over to the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera.
