COPE demands for report on the DG of the National Institute of Language Education and Training

Colombo (News 1st): The COPE Committee has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration to present a report regarding the Director General of the National Institute of Language Education and Training.

The instructions were given when officials of the National Institute of Language Education and Training were summoned to the Committee on Public Enterprises.

The COPE Committee has also instructed the Ministry Secretary to provide a report on the actions taken regarding the Director General within two weeks.

It was revealed in the committee meeting that the former director general of the institution, who was appointed in 2008, was suspended in 2019 and reinstated in 2020.

It has been revealed before the COPE Committee that an amount of 556,108 rupees has been paid as wages and allowances even during the time he was suspended without a formal disciplinary investigation and that he has now submitted a letter of resignation.

The COPE Committee has given instructions to the officials to appoint an acting officer for the position of Director General, which is the most important post of the institution, and to take immediate steps to appoint a permanent Director General.
