COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said power generation at the Samanala Wewa Reservoir can only continue on Wednesday (23).

The CEB said only 0.7m of water required to operate the generators is left in the reservoir.

The Ceylon Electricity Board said electricity was purchased from the Ace Matara private power plant to resolve the power crisis.

23 megawatts will be added to the national grid.

The CEB stated the emergency purchase was made to maintain a continuous supply of electricity in the Southern Province.

The CEB added that negotiations also commenced for the purchase of electricity from the Embilipitiya Ace Power Plant.

The CEB said plans are in place to commence transmission through the new 220-kilowatt high-power transmission line from Polpitiya to Hambantota, which provides electricity to the south, from Thursday (24).
