10 suspects arrested for impersonating Police Officers and looting valuables

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Ten suspects have been apprehended by the police for posing as police officers and for looting valuables in the areas of Millaniya, Kahathuduwa, Anguruwathota, Padukka, Kosgama, Ingiriya, Kirindiwela, Kahathuduwa, and Bandaragama. 

Police say that the suspects in this regard were involved in vandalizing a vehicle using swords. The primary suspect in this regard was apprehended at the Pokunuwita junction on the 18th of July, 2023.

Following the suspect being presented to the Horana Magistrate's Court, the police received permission to detain and interrogate the suspect, which led to the arrest of nine other suspects. The suspects arrested, aged between 20 and 48 years, are residents of Polgasoowita, Padukka, Horana, Haltota, and Kirulapana.

During the operation, the police recovered two stolen three-wheelers, six motorcycles, three gold biscuits, T-shirts, and jackets with police markings. Additionally, one of the suspects was found in possession of a firearm of local origin.

Eight of the suspects have been remanded until the 3rd of August, while the suspect found in possession of the firearm would be detained and further questioned until the 25th of July.
