COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo Stock Exchange has declared Friday (30) as a market holiday after the government declared the day as a special bank holiday.
The bank holiday was announced via an extraordinary gazette notification issued by prime minister Dinesh Gunawardena in his capacity as the minister of public administration, home affairs, provincial councils, and local government.
The bank holiday was declared to obtain the necessary time required for the domestic debt optimization strategy of Sri Lanka, Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said on Sunday (25).
Even though June 30th is a bank holiday, all the banking activities that can be done during the period, with banks physically opening or not, can be carried out as usual, he said.
This includes online banking, ATM withdrawals, and fund transfers on accounts.
Deposits or interest rates in any bank in the country will not be affected in the process of restructuring domestic debt.
