Man who fled from police arrested 24 hours later; He escaped despite being shot in the leg

COLOMBO (News 1st); The man who fled from police, even after being shot at, was arrested while hiding inside an abandoned house in Uragasmanhandiya.

A man with an outstanding warrant had fled ever after being shot in the leg by Sri Lanka Police on Monday (12) afternoon.

Sri Lanka Police said that a police team had visited Uragasmanhandiya on Monday (12) afternoon to arrest the man who had an outstanding warrant. 

It was reported that the man in question was travelling on a motorcycle and police had stopped him in order to take him into custody.

However, according to Sri Lanka Police, the man had tussled with the police officers and attempted to reach for a firearm issued to one of the police officers.

A Police Sergeant had fired two shots into the air, in order to control the situation.

Yet, the man had continued to tussle with police and thus, police officers had fired a shot at his leg.

However, the injured man had managed to flee from police even after being shot, and was later arrested on Tuesday (13) morning.
