COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament on Thursday (8) that he does not approve all what was done by his late-father, Former President Ranasighe Premadasa.
He was speaking during a debate on Trade Union Leaders.
"Just because he was my father, it does not mean I approve all what he did," Sajith Premadasa told the house after Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena remarked that he was surprised that the son of late-President Ranasinghe Premadasa was taking a stand for Trade Union Leaders.
"I am pleased to see that the Opposition Leader is taking a stand for the Trade Union Leaders. I am also surprised of it as well. During the administration of his late-father, all Trade Union leaders were fired. When 83,000 employees were to demand for a minor raise in their pay, they were all sent home," said the Prime Minister.
"We will continue to take forward the positive programs that he (Ranasinghe Premadasa) introduced, and the shortcomings will be cast aside, said the Opposition Leader while dismissing the comments made by the Prime Minister.
