9th May violence cost SLTB Rs. 767 Mn; Details of 18 damaged buses concealed

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's National Audit Office revealed that the Sri Lanka Transport Board in its financial statements had concealed details of 18 SLTB buses that were damaged or destroyed in 2022.

It is reported that following the unrest that broke out across Sri Lanka on the 9th of May 2022, a total of 18 Sri Lanka Transport Board buses were damaged, leading to a loss of over Rs. 767 Million Rupees.

The National Audit Office also revealed that another three vehicles owned by the SLTB valued at Rs. 7.3 Million were also damaged.

An inquiry made by News 1st revealed that the 18 buses, and three other vehicles, were used to transport the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Trade Union leaders and members to Temple Trees on the 9th of May 2022.

It is also reported that no payment was made to the SLTB for those buses.
