COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Dengue Control Unit said mosquito breeding grounds were found at 60 percent of schools in Sri Lanka.

Entomologist Sathira Marasinghe said mosquito breeding grounds were found in 65 percent of schools in the Colombo district and 65-70 percent of schools in the Gampaha district.

He requested the public to draw special attention to destroying mosquito breeding grounds in schools.

He said over 70 percent of state institutions, private institutions, and religious places were also found to be breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.

34,480 dengue patients have been identified in the country so far this year.

The National Dengue Control Unit said 17,020 of these cases were identified in the Western Province.
