COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Teachers' Union says that a sum of 2.5 billion rupees due to those performing examination invigilating duties has not been paid so far.
They point out that the officials who took part in the invigilating of the recent GCE Ordinary levels and Advanced Level examinations should be paid their dues immediately.
Meanwhile, the process of evaluating answer scripts for the GCE Advanced Level examinations, which began after a long delay, was interrupted today.
This was due to the non-payment of advances promised to be paid to teachers today.
The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin says that the department of examinations despite the promise that the teachers involved in the evaluation of GCE AL answer scripts will be issued advance payments, the payment has not been received by them.
He alleges that due to this teachers have not taken part in the examination of GCE AL answer scripts owing to this situation as well.
