COLOMBO (News 1st); General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Attorney Sagara Kariyawasam said no request was made to the President to re-appoint Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.
He expressed these views during a media briefing held at the party headquarters on Monday (15).
The SLPP General Secretary said baseless claims were being made regarding attempts to re-appoint Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister, and Sri Lanka Army officers being stationed across Colombo as a result.
MP Sagara Kariyawasam quoted Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, saying that he was not afraid to obtain power or give up power, for the sake of the people.
MP Kariyawasam said they will not make efforts to forcefully re-appoint such a leader to a post in secret, by deploying the military.
He added that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will only be appointed to a post with the support of the people of Sri Lanka.
The SLPP General Secretary refuted the claims saying that the baseless rumours were being spread by politicians who were attempting to conceal their own setbacks.
